This isn’t your Typical Networking Event….

Winter is officially in full force and I am officially over it, lol! Spring cannot come soon enough but seeing the sun setting a little later every day is keeping me hopeful.

QueensConnected’s next hybrid event on March 26 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm - Navigating Harmful Workplaces: Black and Racialized Women & Non-Binary Individuals Networking, is just around the corner and shortly after the start of spring.

Event Goals

Any career expert will tell you the importance of networking and we all know the adage, who you know is as (if not more) important than your resume. The first event goal is to create an opportunity for us (Black and racialized women and non-binary individuals across sectors) to meet, connect, and get to know one another. An hour will be dedicated to networking by sector (healthcare, NGOs, government, entrepreneurs, private) and attendees will have the opportunity to choose their sector upon purchase.

This isn’t your typical networking event as the second goal is to create a safer space for discussions around the harm we (Black and racialized) folks face at work on a daily basis. There will be a panel discussion (the panelists are fire and I will introduce them in the next post) during the second hour to explore the panelists career journeys, struggles, and pivots. We will unpack the realities of what systemic racism and discrimination looks like in Canadian workplaces and how we can navigate these spaces to our benefit.

This is QueensConnected first hybrid event and I am excited for the opportunity to include Black and racialized women & non-binary individuals from across Ontario, Canada, and potentially abroad to join via Zoom and participate in this conversation.

For in person attendees, the event will take place at the idyllic Hummingbird Hall in Barrhaven. Delicious appetizers (i.e. Haitian patties, gourmet pizza squares, samosas, fruits & veggies, and desserts) will be served.
